  • Have you noticed commercials and print ads lately?  They are being geared to the more mature generation 35+  All ethnic backgrounds, looks, shapes and sizes are required!  You are never too old to get started!

Our job is to inform you about what to expect and how to get started in this exciting industry. The following information will help you make the proper decisions and aid you in getting started!

Our Scouting Service is a Valuable Tool!

There are hundreds of agencies out there, which one is right for you?  Star Finders scouts for 2 reasons the first is to help you get to a reputable agency that has work available and will strive to get you as many auditions as possible and most importantly to ensure you do not waste your valuable time and money on agencies that are not legitimate.  The average person is unaware of the questions to ask and the directories to look at in order to make a properly informed decision before signing a contract with an agency.  We guarantee that we have screened all of our agents and that we will place you with an honest and reputable agency that has been in business for at least 10 years and is dedicated to properly representing you in the model and talent industry.

NO PORTFOLIOS & NO CLASSES!

None of the agencies we are aligned with will try to sell you lessons or over priced photo shoots!  An agent does require proper quality photos to promote you to the various casting directors and production houses.  They will generally inform you of a photographer they prefer but you can use whoever you like!  Keep in mind a picture can be worth a thousand words and your agent will know what they want those words to say (this is what they will use to market you so make your decisions carefully).  You do not need a portfolio to get started.  A portfolio is something you build over time in the industry and is to showcase the work you have done or are involved in.

COST FACTORS

All agencies have fees.  Typical commission for an agent is 10-20% depending on the work that you do. It is not true that an agent will represent you for free.  If you are not prepared to invest in yourself why would they invest in you?  There is a lot of work involved in getting you started and noticed in the industry.  Before an agent will spend their valuable time and money on you they need to know you are committed to wanting experience and work in this industry.  If an agency tells you they have no fees they will generally bury it in to cost of a photo shoot or portfolio. However there are exceptions to this rule. Larger companies that work with only experienced or successful models may have all marketing fees paid for because they know they will have a definite return on their investment!

CAN THIS BE A CAREER?

Most people we work with do this on a part time basis.  Overnight success like Emilia M. from London is not usually the case.  If you can dedicate yourself to making things work for you in the industry like attending auditions you have been chosen for and possibly doing a workshop or two with a casting director this will gain you the exposure and experience to get your foot further through the door!

All Shapes and Sizes are Welcome!

There are several opportunities for individuals who are not 5’9 or 6’0 with the perfect measurements!  Lifestyle Models (Plus Size and Petite Models) are sought after by marketing companies to fill the roles of commercials and print ads everyday because they want the final product to appeal to their target audience.  So the fact that you are not a certain height and weight doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t be able to be involved in the model and talent industry. To be a fashion runway model you do need to fit the perfect mold.

BE CAUTIOUS!

Please note that reputable talent scouts do not find you on the street and hand you a business card that says we want you! Talent scouts need to conduct business in an appropriate manner that makes you feel comfortable and valued.  There is a lot money, time and effort involved in arranging an audition event.  Legitimate talent scouts will do the appropriate steps which allow you to contact them and will advise a school or theater production that they will be there to scout talent.

BRING SUPPORT

We recommend you come to our scouting events and audition with a friend or loved one!  They can provide you the support you need to have the courage to fulfill your dream of getting started and may be able to remind you of questions you would like to have answered.

WORKSHOPS UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE PROGRAMS

We do recommend that you gain experience and knowledge whenever possible.  Remember knowledge is power.  Anytime an agent offers a class or workshop consider taking it.  However, this should not be the way their clients produce them an income.  An Agents role is to promote their clients for auditions and get them noticed by casting directors and other decision makers.
